August Currently

I can't believe it's already August! Nooooooo! I'm not ready!
I am linking up with Farley at Oh' Boy 4th Grade and her August Currently. Have you linked up? You definitely should! I would love to read about your August, too!

Listening: I am visiting my family and my dad LOVES to play golf...every day... and watch golf...every day. He usually watches it in another room, but while I am writing this...he is snoozing a little, watching golf a little. Luckily, I have so much to do, I have totally tuned the snoring snoozing out and the golf out, too. For the most part!

Loving: I love visiting my family every summer. It's beautiful, peaceful, and just nice to be home. I love it here, and it's nice to be with my family.

Family time with my sisters!
Thinking: Oh, my gosh. The new school year sneaks up so fast. I can't believe I start back in a week! Yikes! I am so not ready. Are you? Have you started school yet?

Wanting: I am in Idaho right now and the best summer month here is August. I just want to stay a little bit longer! The lake gets so warm in August and it is just so calming. I WANT more time!

Needing: More time. More time on vacation. More time before school starts. Just.More.Time. But, then again, is it ever enough? There's always more to do and see on vacation. And, there's always more to do before school starts and the kids arrive. Right?

1st Day: We go back for meetings, classroom time, more meetings, and a little more classroom time...on August 11. Ready or not, kids start on the 14th.

This will be my 18th year of teaching. Yikes! And, the one thing I've learned that I tell myself {and brand new teachers} at the beginning of every school year is that it will all get done. If I stress about it and make myself crazy, it will all get done. Or, if I just go with it, it will all get done. Either way, it gets done. So, I choose to just go with it. Of course, I still have to remind myself of this.
But, it sure does make that first week back a lot easier.
How do you handle your first week back?
Stress like crazy or just go with it?

  1. Wow Beth you have had a busy summer, but looks like fun. I'm living my vacations through other people's pictures. I too am about 18 years teaching and still get overwhelmed. I like you advice...It will get done! Get the important things first and work from there. What doesn't get done, probably didn't really need to or there is always next week. Have a great year.

  2. We are all in the same boat with you... the boat on the water (in our dreams), and the boat that is a teacher's life. Yes, it will all get done... each year... somehow. See you around! Kathleen

  3. lol..I totally agree, Golf on TV.. not my thing. The lake looks beautiful. I tell myself it will all get done, so don't stress. Sometimes that works and other times not so much. Enjoy the last of your vacation!

  5. My first week back strategy is just to go with the flow and make sure the 'big jobs' get done! If everyone feels happy and settled by the end of the week I feel like it's been a success. :)

Looks like you have had a lovely summer - here's hoping the last days go nice and slowly for you. :)

  6. That's such good advice-it will all get done! :) My Dad is a golf fan too-he had to get his own tv to watch upstairs because my mother does not allow it on her tv! Too boring!
