I know I have been missing in action and I am so very sorry! The short version is that I had the toughest student in my 18 years of teaching and it truly took so much out of me. So much. This student is now in a more appropriate placement and doing much better.

I will share more {in a December blog post} about how this experience made me question almost everything and how it has helped me to reflect on the teacher that I was, am and want to be.

I promise to be a much better blogger in the month of December!!!!!

Now, onto more exciting news! TpT is having a Cyber Sale!! WooHoo!
Thank you to The 3 am Teacher for this adorable button!

I created them to fit my students' needs and they have become my favorite products because they have helped my students so much!!! I hope they can help yours, too!

A First Day Freeebie and a SALE!

Have you started back to school, yet? We started back on August 14. I kinda blocked out forgot how tough the first week can be...My little ones are coming from HALF day Kindergarten and staying a whole day, can be tiring.
"I'm hungry."
"When's lunch?"
"Is it time to go home?"
"I have to go to the bathroom."
"I'm hungry."
"Can I get a drink?"
"Is it time to go home, yet?"
"I have to go to the bathroom, again."
These are all things I was thinking my little ones asked me that first day.
We are working on our rules, our routines, our behavior and just learning to be 1st Graders.
Overall, it was a good day. But, we have a long way to go. You forget, or at least I do, how different they are at the beginning of the year. Just so much to learn!!!
Here's a fun freebie I used on the first day!
I grabbed it from
Sorry I look a lot little tired...I had my picture taken at the END of the day! Isn't the sign just amazing?!

SoCal Blog Hop with Freebies and a Giveaway!!!

I am extremely excited to be a part of the
SoCal Blog Hop!!! You guys, some of my VERY favorite bloggers are a part of this!!! And, they can't wait to share their FREEBIES with YOU!!!
Oh, and did I tell you that we are also giving away 4!!! $25 TpT Gift Certificates?!!!
How awesome is that?!

We decided on a "beach" theme for our SoCal Blog Hop and that made me happy, happy, happy!
Now, most people think of the ocean when they hear "beach, " but it took me awhile to get used to that term. You see, I grew up in a small town in Idaho, surrounded by a huge, beautiful lake! All growing up and even now, when I'm visiting, we say, "Let's go to the beach today!" "Wanna go lay out at the beach?" It's just what everyone says! Here are a few different views of our little beach and lake!

Just one side of the "beach."

You can see the "beach" next to the curve at the end of the Long Bridge.
A beautiful picture of the "beach" in the Fall.
Isn't it amazing?!

So, so beautiful! It's even more amazing out on on the boat! So much water. Everywhere!

Southern California has so many wonderful beaches! Of course, I am also a BIG fan of Florida beaches!!! LOVE the clear, turquoise water and the white sand! I am sure I would LOVE every beach. Believe me, I have a bunch on my list to visit!!! Do you?
But, back to Southern California beaches!!! That's why we are here!
During Spring Break, my sister and niece came to visit me. One of the nights they were here, we stayed in Huntington Beach! Here are a few pics!

To me, it doesn't matter if you are at a beach on a lake, or a beach on the ocean...they both instantly calm me. I am my most calm and relaxed near the water and I soak up every minute of it. Where are you the most relaxed?

 Here's my Beach Themed Freebie
for you!!!

August Currently

I can't believe it's already August! Nooooooo! I'm not ready!
I am linking up with Farley at Oh' Boy 4th Grade and her August Currently. Have you linked up? You definitely should! I would love to read about your August, too!

Listening: I am visiting my family and my dad LOVES to play golf...every day... and watch golf...every day. He usually watches it in another room, but while I am writing this...he is snoozing a little, watching golf a little. Luckily, I have so much to do, I have totally tuned the snoring snoozing out and the golf out, too. For the most part!

Loving: I love visiting my family every summer. It's beautiful, peaceful, and just nice to be home. I love it here, and it's nice to be with my family.

Family time with my sisters!
Thinking: Oh, my gosh. The new school year sneaks up so fast. I can't believe I start back in a week! Yikes! I am so not ready. Are you? Have you started school yet?

Wanting: I am in Idaho right now and the best summer month here is August. I just want to stay a little bit longer! The lake gets so warm in August and it is just so calming. I WANT more time!

Needing: More time. More time on vacation. More time before school starts. Just.More.Time. But, then again, is it ever enough? There's always more to do and see on vacation. And, there's always more to do before school starts and the kids arrive. Right?

1st Day: We go back for meetings, classroom time, more meetings, and a little more classroom time...on August 11. Ready or not, kids start on the 14th.

This will be my 18th year of teaching. Yikes! And, the one thing I've learned that I tell myself {and brand new teachers} at the beginning of every school year is that it will all get done. If I stress about it and make myself crazy, it will all get done. Or, if I just go with it, it will all get done. Either way, it gets done. So, I choose to just go with it. Of course, I still have to remind myself of this.
But, it sure does make that first week back a lot easier.
How do you handle your first week back?
Stress like crazy or just go with it?

My New, Favorite Pencil Sharpener and #create2educate with Michaels!

Pencils. Pencils. Pencils.
Dull pencils. Broken pencils.
Aaah! Aaah! Aaah!
 "My pencil's broken."
"My pencil's not sharp enough."
"My pencil won't write."
"My pencil just broke."
"I want my pencil to be pointy."

Have you heard this as much as I have? Do you dislike pencils as much as I do?
Or, I should say, DID!

I have gone through soooo many pencil sharpeners in my teaching career! When I first started teaching, I didn't know any better, and we just used the pencil sharpener that came with the classroom, you know, the one that's on every classroom wall.

Eventually, I decided I needed an electric pencil sharpener. I just bought a cheapy one {I was still a newish teacher}. Of course, it broke. So, then, I bought another cheapy broke. This cycle went on for quite a few years.

Finally...I bought an expensive pencil sharpener. And, it has lasted 4 years...BUT, my students are not allowed to use it. EVER. EVER. Well, that can get old. Fast. Plus, it's at the point where it works intermittently.
So, once again, I was on the hunt for a new pencil sharpener when I read this review by Mind Sparks!

I contacted Classroom Friendly Supplies and they sent me a pencil sharpener to review. I am soooo glad they did. I cannot tell you how EXCITED I was to try out this new pencil sharpener!!! Especially, since my expensive pencil sharpener decided to "die" AGAIN!!!

I.AM.In.LOVE. In love, I tell, ya! I told my students all about this pencil sharpener. They were super excited to try it out! One, because our classroom sharpener was broken and their pencils were dull. Two, because they were actually allowed to use this new pencil sharpener. I decided that if I am going to review it, I wanted to see how my students did with it. Would it hold up to their little hands?
My students absolutely LOVED this pencil sharpener by Classroom Friendly Supplies.
The Ooohs and Aaahs were just incredible. Really. Here are just a few of the things my first graders said about this pencil sharpener:
"It's so cool!"
"This is the sharpest pencil I've ever seen."
"You don't even have to hold the pencil."
"Look! One hand!"
"My pencil is so pointy!"
"This is the best day ever!"
Now, those are some SHARP pencils!!!

If you are looking for a new pencil sharpener OR a pencil sharpener that is just AWESOME, this is the pencil sharpener for you. I should know. I have owned more than enough for ALL of us!
This pencil sharpener is kid friendly, easy to use, quiet, and with just a turn or two, you have the "...sharpest pencils ever!"
to find your new pencil sharpener! They even have PINK! I am pretty sure that's my next one!
Gotta love pink!
