Getting My Craft On!

I have always LOVED getting my craft on! When I was in college, I loved making necklaces, earings, re-doing chairs, shelves..I *might* even have some pictures of these. I'll have to look! Sharing these might be a perfect post for a Throw-Back Thursday! However, if I do share these, you will have to forgive me...and was the early 90's! HA!

Teaching is the perfect place to get your craft on! You don't have to be crafty to be a teacher, but it sure makes it A LOT more fun! That's why I was so excited to link up with Miss Kindergarten , A Cupcake for the Teacher, and A Modern Teacher for their Classroom Crafts Linky Party, sponsored by Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores.

When I read Miss Kindergarten's post about this Linky, I knew I wanted to join! So, I went to my local Jo-Ann's and walked around! Of course, I found so many things that I *had* to have, but nothing was coming to mind for a craft!!! So, I just kept looking. That's how my creative side works sometimes. I have to go down an aisle a couple of times and then it just HITS me! And, HIT me id did!!!! Instead of finding just one craft I wanted to make, I found 5ish! Uh-oh!

I saw these door holders and instantly knew I needed to make Library Passes for my students! This was a super easy, quick craft! I did discover that the letter stickers did not stick like I wanted them to. So, for the second pass, I used glitter stickers, that I already had. But, I really wanted the adorable letter stickers to stick, so I added a little glue to the back and voila! Perfect.

For the next project, I still wanted to use these adorable letters!

I have seen this idea around for awhile...but whenever I would look for a container, there were never enough spaces for the letters or the spaces were too small. Well, I found the perfect one at Jo-Ann's! I love using paper letters to make words with the students, but storing the letters can often get annoying. Not anymore! YAY! Now, I have this awesome container and I am loving it! I also love that the letter stickers are on the inside of the container, as well. It makes it so easy for the students to also use this container during our Daily 5 time and Word Work activities. So EASY to put the letters away!

Some of the letters didn't want to stick, but again, I just added a little bit of glue! And, of course, I had to add the owls to go with our classroom theme!!!
The next project was inspired by a project that I created this past summer! You can read about it here and here.
Once I saw these Halloween owl and pumpkin stickers, I KNEW I had to make name sticks, Halloween style! My students just love name sticks! They love knowing that they will always be chosen when I am calling on them! They know they will always get a turn to share an answer!
I can't wait to share these with my students! I am going to add their names and then let them use them as bookmarks and reading sticks! Instead of pointing to the words with their finger, they can use their reading stick, Halloween style! BOO!

I went back to Jo-Ann's for more Halloween owl stickers and found these adorable Thanksgiving owl stickers! What!?! So, of course, I had to make name sticks, Thanksgiving style, too!!! And, again they will become reading sticks, Thanksgiving style when we are done! Gobble! Gobble! Gobble!

These crafts were so much fun to make! I hope you check out all of the adorable crafts and link up, too! Time to get your craft on!

Five for Friday...Yep, on a Sunday!

I always have such good intentions to join linkies on the days they are posted, but it's so very rare that I accomplish that goal! But, hey, better late than never, right! Must.Be.Better.At.Joining.Linkies.On.Time. HA!

So, this is the first time I have joined Doodlebugs Teaching's Five for Friday Linky! I have checked it out many, many times and I decided this time, I had to join the fun!

Here are my 5 random things from the week!

We read the books David Goes to School and No, David, both by David Shannon, this week. I knew I had to add this cute craftivity by Julie Lee to our lesson. My students absolutely adored this! I will say that a craftivity with 33 firsties is VERY different than a craft with 26 Kinders and a partner teacher! We are learning and I know it will only get better!

I shared this picture on Instagram and it was such a wonderful reminder to so many, that I thought I would share here, too. This is up in my staff lounge right now. I work at a school that definitely has many students that this is so fitting. I love the reminder and read this daily, often every time I walk in the lounge. And, definitely more days than others!

Um, yeah...This was my kitchen table earlier this week! Aaaaahhhhhh! So many of my projects and crafts have been taking over. I have to keep reminding myself this is why I got a bigger desk for my upstairs office. For some reason, I still keep using the kitchen table!

Luckily, this is what my table looks like, tonight!!! Still a few projects on it, but at least now they aren't taking over!!!

I am sharing this from Instagram! Are you following me on Instagram? I share soooooooo much on there! Check it out when you get a chance! I am going to link up with Miss Kindergarten , A Cupcake for the Teacher, and A Modern Teacher sharing what I created from products from Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store! I can't wait to share with you...later this week!

I am in a Biggest Loser competition at my school! The buy in was $20. Our initial weigh-in was on 9/13. We weigh-in every Friday and the final weign-in will be on 11/22. Winner takes ALL! We have a total of 17 people participating, so that's a nice PRIZE! Just in time for Christmas shopping!!!

I don't know about you, but I am a yo-yo when it comes to gaining and losing weight! Right now, I am on track. I officially started my weight loss on 8/6, so I lost quite a bit before this competition started. But, I knew it would still be good for me to join to make sure I stay on track!!! I got 2nd place for our first weigh-in, so I am pretty excited! I am super motivated right now, especially for the extra shopping money! Wish me luck!!! :)

Have you linked up with Doodle Bugs for Five for Friday? Check it out!!

Monday Made It...It's "OWL"-TASTIC!

So, I know it is Tuesday, but I just wanted to do a quick little post to share my latest "OWL"-TASTIC creations!

Do you follow Erica Bohrer? She has some of the cutest ideas! I was inspired
by her to make one of my Monday Made It projects. I saw this project on her blog awhile back and I KNEW I had to make it! But, I also had to make it my own and I wanted it to match my classroom theme!

I found these table caddies at Michaels. I love them because they fit my supply cans, perfectly! I found the ribbon at Hobby Lobby. I cut the ribbon to fit and then hot glued it to the caddy. Then, I hot glued the table number on the spot where the ribbon met, so you wouldn't have to see the ends. Ta-da! So easy peasy! :)

Do you use name sticks in your classroom? That's what I call them. I *think* that's what other teachers call them, too??? I posted about how I made these name sticks here.

These adorable name sticks needed a holder just as cute!

I just love how it turned out! After making the cover, I Mod Podged it onto the can! LOVE!

As you can tell, we are LOVING owls in our classroom! As one of my students said the other day, "Our room is 'OWL'-TASTIC!"

Have you linked up with 4th Grade Frolics and Monday Made It? Definitely check it out! There are so many wonderful ideas! But, I must warn you...Your TO DO List will get longer!!! But, that's a good thing, right?! We can always discover new ideas! And, this link-up has A LOT!
I can't wait to check out what you have made!

September Currently

Hi, My Friends!!!

I am linking up with Farley at Oh' Boy 4th Grade and her September Currently. Have you checked out her monthly linky? It's pretty great!

Are you loving this font as much as I am? It's called Sweet Emma and is from Cara Carroll

Are you back in the classroom yet? My first day with students was on August 15! I know my classroom reveal should have been up back on that first day of school...but to be honest, I still wasn't ready! Yikes! Don't get me wrong... their tables were ready, my library and carpet area was ready, my plans were ready.....

But....our walls were pretty blank. Don't worry, they are not blank now and my goal is to have reveal pictures this week..including before and afters! Remember, I had to move classrooms, change my theme, and my grade level! Aaaah! I am enjoying the change (I think) and LOVING my classroom! Here is a little sneak peek of one of my favorite areas.

Loving this space! :)

So, my first goal this week is to share all of my class pics with you...that is if I can attack the area behind my desk! I still haven't finished unpacking. I want my desk back! My second goal is to share my thoughts on the difference between Kindergarteners and 1st Graders. Oh. My. :)

Is your classroom ready? I really think Pinterest, Blogs, and Instagram have added more projects to my list and have prevented me from completely unpacking and being 100% ready. At least that's what I am telling myself! I'd rather make a new, cute project than unpack! LOL!!! What about you? :)
